So what colour is your diet??

Think back to dinner last night..... did your plate have lots of colour? Or did you have loads of carbs and meat??

I find this very interesting...

Over the past 30 odd years the world food supply and qualify has been effected by every single element you can think of.

- The economy

- The government

- The pharmaceutical companies

- Big corporations and food companies

- The television


The world has moved to mass production on almost everything we touch on a daily basis.

Do you know why?  Come on you must have some sort of idea.... yes you guest it: MONEY!

Everything is about the bottom line and companies will go to all corners of the world just to make a profit or increase their profit margins.

Public trading companies have vast numbers of share holders, a board of directors and their sole purpose is to turn a profit no matter what.


Gone are the days of living of you own vegetable garden, gone are the days where you had time to prepare a nutritious meal, gone are the days where you can go and shop at the local farmer for fresh ingredients.

I understand our time is limited and our lives are spend rushing form one meeting to next or in traffic travelling to and from work. As a result the time our parents had to source, prepare and enjoy a good meal is now a luxury.  We depend on convenience and we are constantly bombarded with solutions and adverts promoting convenience about food, etc.

We only stop and think, wait a minute..... there is something wrong when a friend, family member or even oneself end up in hospital or gets diagnosed with a “lifestyle illness”.

This is not your fault, we have been brainwashed by irresponsible advertising and false claims by food companies and to be honest, you only really can break free from the grip if you allow yourself to be educated and better equipped next time you make a trip to the supermarket or veggie shop!!


Nutrition – Balanced Nutrition must be your daily focus.

Food companies are only interested in quantity as well as how they can make the most profit.  They sell their cheap bad carbohydrates as the solution to your hectic lifestyle.

Carbohydrate based diets cause your blood sugar levels to fluctuate all the time causing cravings and / or drop in energy levels and the only way to “feel better” is to consume more carbohydrate foods which repeat the process.

Protein based breakfast and meals during the day, has a slow release of energy and normalise your blood sugar levels.

Food supply the following:

1. Energy (proteins, fats and carbohydrates) – used when you wake up

2. Building Material (amino acids, vitamins, minerals, micro-elements) – used when you sleep to repair your body and reload


What happens when you have NO breakfast?

When you skip breakfast, your eating regime during the day is disrupted, and you get yourself into a vicious circle with no easy way out.  Your blood sugar levels drop below normal level, you experience cravings, hunger and a drop in energy.  This make you seek simple carbohydrates (chocolate, sweet coffee, sandwiches, sweets, cookies, doughnuts, soft drinks, juice, etc) to satisfy your hunger and raise your sugar level. All these are high in calories and fat, but low in nutrients and fibre and when digested immediately turn into sugar which cause your blood sugar level to rise.  **(continue below)


What happens when you have a Carbs (problem) breakfast?

Carbs based breakfast are simple carbohydrates and when digested immediately turns into sugar.  Your body wakes up in the morning and ask for vital nutrients and water and you give it sugar instead.  (These includes a traditional English breakfast and almost all cereals).


** Your body overproduces Insulin which removes extra sugar from the bloodstream and turns it into fat.  As a result, sugar level drop, often below the level you woke up with.  Now you feel hungry and weak as your brain lacks sugar.  Its a reason behind cravings.  To overcome hunger, you again need simple carbohydrates (chocolate, sweet coffee, sandwiches, sweets, cookies, doughnuts, soft drinks and juice, etc ) which again raise your sugar levels and free you of hunger and weakness.  Each sugar “injection” is followed by an overcompensating surge.


The cycle repeats itself 2-3 times a day and you develop dependence on carbs.  The excess of carbs make the body work at constant overload.

All above is the most common cause of weight problems and many other health challenges… and it all begins with a bad (or no) breakfast.


Balanced Protein-Based Breakfast ?

Such a breakfast supplies your body with all vital nutrients and energy without increasing blood sugar and insulin levels.

It helps to avoid dependence on carbs during the day.  As a result, appetite stays under control, cravings for carbs (chocolate, sweet coffee, sandwiches, sweets, cookies, doughnuts, soft drinks, juice, etc) diminish.

Your body provides more energy from proteins and not all from carbohydrates.  As a result less cravings, normal sugar levels = no conversion of carbs into fat and no loss in energy.  Energy from protein (Amino Acids) helps using sorted body fats!

Health Tips:

1. The rule of  thumb is to make sure you never skip breakfast.

2. Make sure your breakfast is protein based (regular cereals are all carbohydrate based)

3. Enjoy 3-4 servings of fruits and veggies during the day. Colourful vegetables and/or salad – avoid the colour less stuff.

4. Make sure you enjoy a palm size protein (grilled or baked)

5. The less legs the “protein” has the better the protein.  (Fish and Chicken are ideal)


Our children:

It has been documented and stated on various television programs and news agencies that the biggest sector of human suffering long tern health issues are our children.

Remember the only thing they know about is what we feed them; they have no idea what life use to be like. (30 -40 years ago).


Almost no exercise, lack of nutrition and very high calorie meals are at the order of the day!

If not for you, then make a change for your kids starting today – change the colour of your diet and cut the carbs!!!
